Internship Diary: Charlotte Motor Speedway– Sam Spinale

It’s hard to believe I’m writing my second internship diary to discuss my time at Charlotte Motor Speedway. For a second summer, I was honored to be able to intern at the racetrack, this time as an Events Intern. The two months I was interning at the racetrack this summer were absolutely incredible and provided me with experiences and connections that happen once in a lifetime.

Right when the spring semester ended, I packed up my things at Ohio University and made the five-hour drive to Charlotte, North Carolina. There was definitely a lot of preparation going into moving to a new state for two months. With that being said, I’m going to shamelessly plug my blog on preparing for your own internship, so check that out if you find yourself in similar shoes as me. After arriving in North Carolina, I almost immediately started my internship and began preparing for the racetrack’s biggest event of the year; The NASCAR Coca-Cola 600 race weekend. This event is so spectacular to be a part of, and I got to see it in a new light when it rained the whole weekend. While that was certainly not how we wanted the weekend to go, it helped me to learn more about how quickly events change and how to prepare for those changes.

After a successful race weekend, we began preparing for this year’s Summer Shootout Racing series, which involves drivers who are beginning their careers and are looking to climb the ranks of NASCAR racing. I helped to lead these events last year in the Corporate Sales department, so I felt very confident heading into the planning and preparation after already working the events last year. That prior experience really helped to make the first four weeks of racing for the event go smoothly and successfully.

I’m so sad I could only stay for the first four weekends of the series, but I’m so excited to be hitting the road with my next racing-related opportunity; The Superstar Racing Experience (SRX) racing series. I’m currently in the car on the way to Connecticut for our first event on Thursday! Be on the lookout for my internship diary in our Summer edition of PR Success to read all about my time with SRX!

Until then, have a great summer, and always reach out with any questions, comments, or just to say hey! See you all in Athens very soon!
