Thoughts as a incoming senior – Maggie Noll

I am going into my senior year of college which is so hard to grasp. I still feel like a baby freshman thinking of how to decorate my dorm or which organization I want to be a part of. I’ve always been told my college years will fly by. I used to blow it off and think yeah right. But let me tell you, they do. College goes by in a blink of an eye, so make your four years count.

My advice for anyone about to start their four years or even anyone starting their second, third, or even fourth year of college is to be present and not put so much pressure on yourself. It is hard to not put so much pressure on yourself because you see how people are succeeding around you in their classes or landing an internship. You then begin to think about why you haven’t done as many things. This is completely valid to feel this way but know that it is okay to go at your own pace.

I am going to be very vulnerable and say that I did not land a summer internship. For a while, I was hurt, defeated and upset with myself because I thought I wasn’t good enough and wondered why I couldn’t get one when everyone around me was. I then remembered that everyone works at their own pace and that it was okay because there are so many opportunities in the future for me. The point of sharing this is to let you know that it is okay to work at your own pace. You do not need to compare your journey to others because everyone has a different career journey.

This year is my final year as a student at Ohio University and I am excited to embark on this school year and work at my own pace. I am thrilled to be in Scripps PRSSA, explore more of Athens, continue to work hard in school, and just be present with my friends. Cheers to my senior year!
