First-Time Apartment Owner in the Summer — Anna Hinkle

Now that I am going into my junior year at Ohio University, I am officially enjoying the perks of apartment life. After spending my freshman and sophomore years in the dorms, renting an off-campus apartment for my junior year was needed. Since I have officially owned the apartment since June, visiting Athens in the summer has for sure been a highlight for me.

Since I moved in this past May, I have made the three-hour journey to Athens a total of five times so far! During my visits, I have enjoyed many fun activities such as going to Strouds Run State Park, moving in and decorating, walking along the Hocking River, going uptown for my favorite matcha and snacks and shopping at the local farmer’s market. Through doing these activities, I have also been savoring the summer weather and taking a break from school and exams. I have had the time to take up reading and have enjoyed new stories to occupy my mind away from my phone. While indulging in all these summer activities, I have also been slowly learning the responsibilities and chores associated with being an apartment owner. These include the not-so-fun parts of paying bills and cleaning every nook and cranny to have guests over. However, it is all worth it for the enjoyment of a luxury living experience and having some me-time!

Finally, I know living in my first apartment and absorbing these homeowner skills will benefit me in the future as I grow. Beyond all the fun activities to do in the summer while having an apartment to live in, I am looking forward to the 2023-2024 school year.
