Key Takeaways:
- Don’t underestimate non-major classes: College is more than just becoming qualified to get a job. Utilize your non-major classes to further your understanding of the world.
- The 80% philosophy: You don’t fill your car all the way up and then run it down to 0%. Most of the time, good enough is good enough.
- Don’t take the group project home: You must learn to delegate and clearly communicate your needs and expectations. In the real world, attempting to do 100% of the work for a group will lead to burnout.
- You are not your job: Do not confuse your capability in your job for your capability to be a good person. Jobs matter, but do not let it take over your life.
- You do not have to have “it” (whatever “it” is) figured out: You never know where you will end up! Your future career may not even exist yet. We don’t know what we don’t know.
- Figure out what your priorities are. What salary lets you live comfortably? What benefits do you need or want? How many hours do you want to work? Do you want to be able to WFH/hybrid?
- If you want to get a master’s degree, expand your knowledge and get it in something unrelated to your bachelor’s degree.
