Key Takeaways:
- Diversity is making sure that different cultures have a say and are represented in policies.
- When asking questions about someone, approach these from a genuine curiosity and with the goal of a conversation, not just “trying to figure someone out.” Look up things that you are curious about.
- If you see or hear something, say something- especially if you hold a position over people such as a Resident Assistant.
- Make an effort to attend multicultural events and leave your comfort bubble.
- Follow a variety of Ohio University clubs and organizations on social media to learn more about events.
- Do not allow someone to say something disrespectful. You should call out the disrespectful comment. If the person refuses to acknowledge it or becomes aggressive, remove yourself from the situation.
- If you say something disrespectful, make sure to acknowledge what you did and apologize.
