Women’s History Month

A single press release can spark a movement, a bold campaign can challenge the status quo, and a powerful story can amplify voices that deserve to be heard. Women in public relations have been doing this for generations, shaping the industry one message at a time. Women’s History Month is a time to celebrate the inspiring young women who dedicate themselves to our chapter, their own growth and the communities they impact every day.

Scripps PRSSA Members at the PRSSA/PRSA International Conference (ICON) where these women connected with industry leaders, expanded their skills and embraced new opportunities in public relations.

The young women of our chapter are proof of the excellence, impact and positive influence women can bring to each other and themselves to create a chapter that fosters creativity, professionalism and a rich sense of community. It’s important to remember that the excellence women have brought to the public relations industry did not start within the past ten years or even within this century.

Women like Betsy Plank, who shattered barriers as the first female PRSA president, and Ida B. Wells-Barnett, who used investigative journalism to fight for justice, paved the way for young women to thrive in public relations today. For decades, women have shaped this industry with their voices, ideas and determination through leading groundbreaking campaigns, redefining media strategies, and using storytelling to create real change.

Their influence is woven into every press release, every movement and every connection built through communication. Women in public relations have shaped how stories are told, how brands are built and how voices are heard, leaving a lasting mark on the world. Their work goes beyond getting media coverage or creating messages through making a real difference and sparking change. From important news to social justice efforts, women have used their skills to guide conversations, support causes and challenge the way things have always been done.

Seeing the passion and drive of the young women in our chapter shows that this legacy is far from over. These women are not just following the path laid by those before them, they’re pushing the limits of what is possible in the field. Their creativity, hard work and sense of purpose are shaping a new generation of leaders who value working together, being inclusive and making a positive impact.

While these women continue to grow in their careers, the foundation created by those who came before them only gets stronger. The future of public relations is bright, and the young women of today are ensuring the industry will keep growing, inspiring and leading for years to come. As part of our ongoing efforts to empower and support strong women in PR, we strive to create spaces for learning and growth through events and initiatives

Scripps PRSSA encourages everyone to celebrate the women in their communities this Women’s History Month. We especially urge the young women of PRSSA, both within our chapter and beyond, to reflect on their accomplishments, recognize their potential and honor the legacy of greatness they are continuing. By providing one another with opportunities, connections and support, the women of PRSA and PRSSA exemplify the power of female greatness and show just how capable women are of achieving success.
