Macy Cantrell, 02/23/2025

This week, we were visited by Macy Canrtell (‘22). Macy is an OU alumnus and a former President of our chapter. Macy graduated with her Bachelor of Science in Journalism-Strategic Communications and now resides in New York City, working for FINN Partners as a Senior Account Executive. During her time at OU, Macy also had multiple internships at well-known companies, including e.l.f. Cosmetics. During her presentation, Macy walked us through what working in travel PR at FINN looks like, along with her transition from living in a small town in Ohio to the Big Apple.

Travel PR

While presenting, Macy revealed to us all that Travel PR wasn’t her initial speciality when joining FINN Partners, but rather their lifestyle team. Macy explained that she transitioned over time to working with Travel PR clients. Macy said that while no day looks the same at her agency, she handles lots of direct communication with clients, managing clients’ social media accounts, destination and hotel pitches, event planning and the most exciting part of her job is traveling with clients while campaigns/projects are in action. While traveling with clients, Macy also said she is often in charge of hosting the journalists and influencers who were invited as well. Macy said that working in Travel PR is a fulfilling and intriguing experience for her and that she’s extremely excited to travel with one of her clients to Iceland next month!

Living in NYC

As mentioned earlier, Macy moved to New York City shortly after graduating from OU to work in-office with her current employer. Which, as many know, is a dream for many, but also a very intimidating possibility. Macy said that while relocating to NYC was never part of her plans post-grad, she’s grateful that she took the leap. Macy recommended to anyone looking to move to a big city post-grad to do the same. Macy also advised anyone relocating post-grad to use their network (since there are fellow Bobcats everywhere), ask for help and to take advantage of any flexibility your employer provides.  Macy said that it’s also important to remember to create a life outside of work when relocating and to get as involved as possible in the communities around you.

Macy’s Advice to our Chapter

As a recent graduate and former chapter member, Macy provided us some relevant advice for enhancing our college experiences and adjusting to post-grad life after college! Two of Macy’s great points are listed below.

  • “It’s ok to not know what you’re doing post-grad.” – Macy said that adjusting to a 9-5 after having a much more flexible schedule in college. Macy encouraged anyone close to graduating to give themselves time to settle into their new schedule and lifestyle.
  • “Get involved in the chapter.” – Macy said that being part of Scripps PRSSA was an extremely important part of her time in college and that the connections she made in PRSSA led her to all of the professional positions she’s held. Macy heavily encouraged everyone to join a committee and to run for an executive at some point during their time in PRSSA, and take advantage of and appreciate all the opportunities the chapter provides, whether that be the networking trips or the social events held by the chapter in Athens.
