This week, our chapter was visited by a two-time Ohio University alumnus and past Scripps PRSSA chapter member, Annie Winegardener (‘11 and ‘13). Annie completed her Bachelor of Science in Journalism with some additional minors and then continued at OU, completing her Master’s in Public Administration. Annie now works at the Motion Agency in Cincinnati as an Account Supervisor. Annie works with clients like Haribo, Myriad Genetics and GeneSight. Annie said she enjoys working at Motion after spending about 12 years on the more corporate side of communications. Annie also finds Motion special because it is the largest female-owned agency in Chicago, with a staff that is over 65% female across all offices, which gives Motion a diverse and unique presence in the public relations industry.
Throughout her presentation, Annie provided us with a deeper look into her professional experiences since graduating from OU, which includes not only experience in agency and corporate, but also non-profit/government communications work. Annie also provided our chapter with her own unique insights and advice (and some from her colleagues at Motion!) for our members as young professionals, which are listed below.
Annie and her Colleague’s Advice!
- “Do your research when interviewing.” – Annie Winegardener

- Annie also especially emphasized the importance of maintaining excellent writing skills as young professionals!
