Meet the 2012-2013 VP of External Relations
Name: Elizabeth Krizner
Year: Senior
PRSSA Position: VP of External Relations
Hometown: Englewood, Ohio (Dayton)
Major: Strategic Communication / Public Relations
Why you wanted to be on the executive board: As soon as I joined PRSSA I knew this was something I wanted to be a part of. Being the face of such a prestigious and well-known organization would be such an honor and I wanted to bring my own unique ideas and personality to the table and make PRSSA even better this upcoming year—if that’s possible.
How PRSSA has helped you: I know it sounds cliché, but I would not be where I am this second without PRSSA. This is how I became aware of the internship I am currently in and I am having such a valuable experience. It is such a hands-on experience and nearly everything I do is portfolio worthy. I have also met numerous contacts through PRSA events and our weekly meetings, which will come in pretty handy when I begin my job search pretty soon!
Why you chose to attend OU: The moment I decided to major in journalism, I knew I had to consider OU. It felt so welcoming and it is such a college town. The moment I stepped foot on the beautiful brick-covered campus I knew I was home and a Bobcat for life.
PR experience: My sophomore year I joined ImPRessions, OU’s student-run PR firm. I was an account associate for College Book Store my sophomore year and then College Green Magazine my junior year. I wrote news releases, managed Twitter accounts and planned release parties. I am currently interning as a PR and Marketing Coordinator for the Ohio State Fair in Columbus managing the Twitter and Facebook accounts, writing news releases and blogs, creating newsletters, planning events, writing radio scripts and a LOT of media relations. Working for the Fair is so great because you can come in one day and randomly be assigned to go on a search around Columbus for funnel cakes, doughnuts and cheese fries. Think I’m kidding? Just ask the Executive VP Sam Tischler, one of my fellow interns!
Advice for incoming freshmen: Again, cliché, but do not take any time you have for granted. You remember how quickly high school flew by? Well college will go by even faster. Also make sure to get involved as soon as you can, even if you’re not 100 percent sure if you should do it. I did not join PRSSA until fall of my junior year and I have already learned so much and met so many great people. I can only imagine how much more knowledge I would have if I had not waited so long.
Interesting Fact: I am the oldest of four girls and my parents have been together since high school. Such an inspiration!
Hobbies: I am an avid Twitter-er. What better place for me to stay up to date with all the PRSSA and PRSA info AND the latest celebrity gossip? Reading is also something I love doing. There is something about curling up and getting lost in the pages that is so therapeutic.
Favorite OU memory: My freshman year here at OU was beyond amazing because everything was so new and exciting. I met most of my friends that year and have remained best friends with them ever since. Another awesome memory would have to be the PRSSA Chicago trip this past March!
Where you see yourself in 10 years: In 10 years I will be 31 years old… what a scary thought! I would love to be working at a PR agency or working in event planning in Columbus or doing PR for Limited Brands, which is based in Columbus as well. If I had the opportunity to work in Chicago, Boston, Los Angeles or even the Carolinas I would not necessarily turn it down. Such a wide variety I know but I guess the ultimate answer is doing PR or planning events where ever life takes me. Being happily married with children and still super close with my fellow Bobcats would not hurt either!
Love that you went on a cheese fries hunt! Great post Miss Liz 🙂
