Name: Allison Jordan
Year: Senior
PRSSA Position: President
Hometown: Jackson Township
Major: Public Relations
Why you wanted to be on the executive board: PRSSA is a collection of really dedicated students who grow into a crazy family of communication nerds. Joining this organization my freshman year was by far the best decision I have made in college. I wanted to be on executive board to help continue to grow such an awesome club and create some new programs to further assist our members in preparation for the “real world”.
How PRSSA has helped you: PRSSA has helped me create life-long friendships and networks that will not only assist me in my personal life, but also in my professional life. Through the weekly speakers I have heard some of the best advice from working practitioners and helped build my personal network. Without PRSSA I would be lost and completely clueless to the nuances of the public relations world.
Why you chose to attend OU: I chose OU because of its reputation and because the campus blew me away on my first visit. After touring UK, UC and OSU I remember walking through college green and thinking, “this is what college is supposed to look like.”
PR experience: I’ve interned at two different agencies and at a corporate office inside the banking sector. I’m an agency junkie and love the fast paced days that having multiple clients creates. My advice on getting experience while in school would be to join ImPRessions, it will prepare you for your first internship more than your classes. PR= Real word experiences. Period.
Advice for incoming freshmen: Don’t take yourself too seriously, expect to make mistakes and always take time to breathe and learn from your past. In the next four years you will meet some of the most amazing people and some people that just seemed amazing at the time. You will make poor choices and have some of the best ideas that turn into the most amazing memories that will last you a lifetime. Be open to everything and take each relationship, experience and lesson with you the rest of your life. OU is a special place and will be the best four years of your life. When you need help, ask for it. Everyone is here to help each other and to answer any questions. Most importantly, cherish your slice nights, lazy days at strouds and weekends on court street, they will be your salvation from stress and the location of your best memories.
Interesting Fact: I can’t wink, I look absolutely ridiculous when trying.
Hobbies: I love being on, near or in water. You can always find me in comfy clothes with a nice glass of wine reading or catching up on my favorite shows. When able, I travel as much as I can and try as many new things as possible. I’m also a complete foodie, I’m always in the kitchen or at a restaurant trying some new dishes.
Favorite OU memory: There is no possible way I could pin-point one exact moment. OU, and the people I have met here, have introduced me to so many new things and experiences. I have a tremendous amount of memories filled with smiles, stupid decisions and laughter.
Where you see yourself in 10 years: Hopefully I will be in love with the agency I am working at and in a city that I’m obsessed with. I want to be married and working on my second passport, as well as keeping a close relationship with our chapter of PRSSA. #ScrippsPRSSA4lyfe
