In high school, Kaija served as an editor for her newspaper and discovered her passion for writing. She further realized she wanted a career with an advertising and client-relationship focus. Kaija is extremely involved in PRSSA and ImPRessions. For the past two years, she has been a member of the social affairs committee and will lead the committee as the new VP of Social Affairs this year.

Read more about Kaija below:

What has been your experience with PRSSA/ImPRessions?       I joined both PRSSA and ImPRessions immediately in my freshman year, and like so many others I fell in love with the community and all the opportunities I’ve been lucky enough to gain from my involvement. Freshman year I was on the ACHS account, and sophomore year I was on Bird Arena. (Her work earned her the “Rising Star” Award.) Both were great experiences with very different focuses on PR, which I loved. In PRSSA, I was on the social affairs committee and I was elected as VP of Social Affairs for the coming school year

What is the biggest piece of PR info you have learned from PRSSA? All of the speakers that we get to see weekly have taught me that the diversity of the PR field is infinite and that I can do anything, anywhere with my degree

Advice for incoming freshmen? The age-old advice will always ring true; get involved! Try out everything until you find your fit, and you don’t have to limit yourselves to just PRSSA and ImPRessions.  Only take on what you can handle, but make sure that what you do get involved in is something that brings out your passion

Hobbies? I love to follow fashion blogs, and they actually teach me a lot about how to get creative when running any kind of blog. I really do love to take pictures, but so far my career has yet to advance past Instagram.  I will never pass up an opportunity to travel. I’m lucky enough to have been to 6 countries and 23 states and can’t wait to get to more!

Favorite OU memory? When Obama came to Athens.  No matter what political party you support, it’s amazing to get to see the President of the United States in person.  SUCH a rush! I got in line at 11:00 a.m. and it was so worth it!

Dream place to work? I have always wanted to start out my career in Charlotte, NC. It has a huge bobcat network and is a great city for PR. Plus, I love warm weather and the south!

What field of PR are you most interested in? As of now I really would like to work in sports PR. I really love baseball but it would be amazing to work for any professional sports team

What is your favorite reality show? I don’t watch any reality TV, but if I did I have heard that Duck Dynasty is hilarious!

What is an interesting fact about you that not many people know? I’m a ghost story junkie but also am deathly (haha) afraid of ever actually seeing a real ghost!

If you were an ice cream flavor, what would you be? Strawberry because my favorite food group is fruit, my favorite color is pink and I love things that are timeless & classic
