When you get to college, there is an overwhelming amount of people telling you to network, network and network! Networking is a powerful tool to build quality relationships and figure out what direction you want to take your career in. How exactly do you start networking? It can be a difficult thing to learn if you’ve never stepped out of your comfort zone to do so, but Scripps PRSSA prides itself on giving its members many ways to network without having to search for those people yourself. Among the many programs Scripps PRSSA has, one program that’s by far the easiest way to network is the Mentor/Mentee Program.
The Mentor/Mentee Program is an amazing opportunity to get paired with someone in PRSSA who is more experience in their college career and can help guide you through many of those scary college tasks. For those who are older and more experienced, you’ll be paired with someone who you can mentor and learn from as well. Without even having to make the initial approach, you’re already given a person who you can network with, learn from and hopefully a friend you’ll grab some coffee with before class or goto the next PRSSA social with.
I also believe this is a special chance to get to know people within the chapter because you gain that go-to person to ask all of your questions. If you want to know how to write a cover letter; build a resume; apply to a job; need a reference; a study buddy; and possibly a job in the future, then join the Mentor/Mentee Program! Once you take that step to get more involved and meet new people, it makes the experience much more fun. You’ll start to look forward to Monday meetings (if you don’t already), then you can’t imagine missing a PRSSA social and the next thing you know you’re on the executive board helping run the best organization at OU. Consider joining the Mentor/Mentee program, because you won’t regret it and you’ll watch your professional and personal life flourish.
