It is the beginning of my final year at Ohio University, and I am what you would call a “sad senior”. I am excited, however, for this academic year. I have created my Senior Year Bucket List, and at the top of the list is 1804 Communication. I have been a member of 1804 Communication, a student-run public relations firm, for four years, and I am honored to be this year’s managing director.
1804 Communication is a student-run public relations firm with national and local clients that expose students to real-world, hands-on experience. The firm prides itself on being an organization that takes what students learn in the classroom and applies it to real work for clients that students can add to their portfolio.
Students have the opportunity to create social media content for our very own E.W. Scripps School of Journalism; or plan Athens County Humane Society’s Woof and Wine event; or pitch to potential clients; or see their work reach a national audience. I could go on.
Out of all the organizations that I have joined, 1804 Communication has been the most beneficial to my academic career. It is wonderful to learn about the industry, but to do work within the industry is an opportunity that shouldn’t be passed up. I have created strong portfolio work to show potential clients, but my favorite thing about 1804 Communication is that it has pushed me outside my comfort zone.
If you are interested in learning more about 1804 Communication or joining the firm, I highly encourage that you attend one of our informational meetings:
